The Burj Khalifa, known as Burj Dubai before its opening, is a skyscraper in
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure of all time
at 828 m (2,717 ft).
Its construction work started on 21 September 2004 and its exterior structure
was completed on 1 October 2009. The building was officially opened on 4
January 2010 and is part of a new 2 km2 (490-acre) major development project
known as Downtown Dubai at the "First Interchange" on Sheikh Zayed Road near
Dubai's main business district.

The architectural and engineering work for the towers was done by the Chicago
firm Skidmore, Owing & Merrill, with Adrian Smith (now with his own firm)
as principal architect and Bill Baker as principal structural architect. The
