With only a few days left for Diwali, the education department of the state
government has announced Diwali vacation in the state schools. State schools
will have Diwali vacation from November 9. As per the academic calendar
prescribed by the Education Department, the Diwali vacation will be from
November 9 to 29 i.e. 21 days. Regarding the state vacation, the Primary
Education Department has also informed the District Education Department by
giving a circular on this matter.
On the other hand, today an important decision has been taken in the field of
education. A meeting of the State Council of Ministers was held under the
chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. Briefing about the
important topics discussed in the meeting, Spokesperson Minister Rishikesh
Patel said that henceforth, a common portal "Gujarat Common Admission Services
(GCAS)" will be operational for admission in all government universities in
the state. A simple and secure application has been developed by the Education
Department to the end-to-end manage admission process covering all courses,
faculty and students of government universities.

The minister added that all corrections made in data through audit trail can
be fully maintained through this portal. At present each student earns an
average of Rs. 500 to apply to around 5 courses, students can apply now to an
unlimited number of universities or courses through GCAS for a nominal fee.
The duration for admission to get students in each university and courses will
also be same. As this portal becomes functional, henceforth all the government
universities of Gujarat will not have to go through admission separate
process, so that the university will save time and funds that are diverted in
infrastructure.

Giving detailed information about this portal, the spokesperson added that all
the information about the admission process through Gujarat Common Admission
Services will be available on one click. Online registration along with
students the choice to the filling, if the board data is available the result
of the student will be available automatically by entering the seat number of
the student. For the ease of admission, the documents of the students will be
verified at the college level by the help center, as well as merit making as
per the rules and online counseling of the students has also been arranged
through this portal.

The portal will also provide services of information distribution through
SMS/email including confirmation for admission and online payment of fees by
students, he added. Along with this, OTP based login facility for all
students, university, college and separate dashboard, reports for education
department, university and students have also been arranged in this portal.
Talking about the features of the portal, the minister said that the student
will get the facility of unlimited application in all the universities and
different faculties of Gujarat simultaneously by paying a single admission fee
through this portal. The university will also get their student data through a
secure application. The education department will get the data of admission
process of all universities under the Gujarat State Public University Act in
real time on a single click. It also provides a cloud-based solution for auto
scaling and reliability.
